Hey! My name is Shavonne and three words that would describe me are creative, silly, and calm. From learning how to teach through my career and volunteer work in education to sharing my yoga practice with others, I now realize how life has groomed me to become an instructor even though I did not see this for myself. In 2018, I earned the 200-hour certification from CitYoga School of Yoga and Health.
Off of the mat, I am the founder of VK Press, Ladies Night Empowerment, and Strength In Om. VK Press is a book publishing company that aims to share the stories of independent writers and freelance artists globally. Ladies Night is a brand and podcast fostering connection and elevating women through conversations, events, and the annual EnVision Board Brunch. Strength In Om cultivates resilience and self-acceptance through signature workshops, online yoga videos, and grounding retreats.
Much of my life has focused on the performing arts and my love for it shows up in my yoga teaching style. Whether it’s in the themed playlist during a regular class or art infused yoga workshops, I love to find ways for students to tune into themselves and share their full selves with the world!
A life-shifting lesson I have learned off the mat is the importance of being vulnerable. When we are vulnerable, we allow our authenticity to show up even with the risks that come from standing out. When I hear Haven, I think of a safe space for vulnerability. My intention as a teacher is to encourage vulnerability and to tune into your unique voice within.
