Mitzi Melaine Wilson Piston
Hi! I’m Mitzi Melaine. I'm currently using both names interchangeably. My pronouns are she/her/hers. I am passionate about improving the quality of life of people and communities. At my heart, I am a poet and a writer. I am a whimsical spirit that finds inspiration in Womanist prose and joy in embodied movement. I first came to my mat, as a means to relax and quiet my mind. Through times of stress and transition, my yoga practice has been a consistent place of renewal. I teach a practice that is intentional, yet lighthearted and exploratory. My goal is to lift hearts, calm minds, ease tensions, and invite peace. With that said, my first priority is to simply hold space for you and your yoga journey.
I am a 200-hour certified yoga teacher. I have completed training in trauma-informed yoga, embodied movement, and healing-centered practice. I will complete my 500-hour yoga teacher certification May 2019. As I am always a student first, I have plans to pursue further training in pranayama (breathwork), Reike, and narrative medicine in 2019. My focus is on nourishing the emotional health of communities of color.
My practice honors the legacy of my great aunt, Catherine May. When I think of the word Haven, I immediately think of sacred space. I imagine a space shared by our ancestors who journeyed before us and who now lift up our journey.
